David Abazs and his wife Lise run an off the grid all electric powered farm, Round River Farm in the Sawtooth Mountains along the North Shore of Lake Superior for the past 38 years. David instigated and started two additional farms, the Wolf Ridge Organic Farm and the AgroEcology Center Farm, both here in Finland, MN. David also owns Round River Renewables LLC for the past 28 years, working on conservation and renewable energy installations. He transitioned eight years ago from those newly developed farms and his renewable energy company to become the Executive Director of the Northeast Regional Sustainable Development Partnership at the University of Minnesota. David is a former UMN Endowed Chair in Agriculture Systems and has authored the Western Lake Superior Food Capacity study and the Local Food as an Economic Driver study and continues research on Soils, Biochar and Agrophenology. His greatest joy is his family, living connected to land, and imagining and leaning into a more distributed, diverse and regenerative world!
